About DropYourStory

A private space to speak it, feel it, and grow from it.

Why We Built This

Journaling isn't new. Decades of research on expressive writing — going back to psychologist James Pennebaker's foundational studies, and widely confirmed since — show that putting your experience into words is linked to real reductions in stress and real gains in emotional clarity. That's not a marketing claim; it's one of the more consistently replicated findings in psychology.

But most journaling apps were never built with Black Gen Z in mind — and most mental wellness resources ask you to open up to a stranger before you've had space to sit with your own thoughts first. DropYourStory starts earlier than that: a private space that's just yours, before anyone else needs to be involved.

What DropYourStory Does

Record — drop your day in your own voice: audio, video, or text, whatever fits the moment. Tag how you're feeling before you start, and add context after.

Journal — every entry you've ever dropped lives here, searchable, organized into chapters you create yourself, for the seasons of your life you want to remember.

Insights — real, AI-generated insight into your own patterns over time — your mood trends, your growth, what's changing — built entirely from the tags and metadata you choose to share, never from the actual content of what you recorded.

Story Capsules — seal a message to your future self, set to unlock months or years from now. When it opens, you can reply to your past self and keep the conversation going.

Privacy, For Real

"Private" gets said a lot by apps that don't really mean it. Here's what it actually means for DropYourStory: your entries are enforced as private at the database level — not a setting someone could quietly change, a rule built into how the app works. No one on our team can read your entries. And when we generate AI insights about your growth, the AI only ever sees the tags you chose, never your raw recordings.

A Real First Step — Not a Replacement for Help

DropYourStory is a place to get your feelings out — a first step, not a substitute for a therapist, a doctor, or a crisis line. If what you're carrying feels like too much, please reach out to someone trained to help.

Created With Black Gen Z at the Center

DropYourStory was designed with Black Gen Z at the center — in the voices behind it, the way we talk about mental wellness, and the values built into the product itself. Representation like that matters, and too often it's treated as an afterthought instead of a starting point.

"No audience. No likes. No judgment. Just you."

Founder & CEO, DropYourStory

Long before DropYourStory, I was a child who didn't think her voice mattered.

I grew up shaped by poverty and bullied at school — carrying a kind of quiet pain that a lot of children carry, without ever quite knowing how to put it into words. It took me a long time to believe I was enough. So one day, I decided to become that voice for other children myself.

That's what led me to write the AddyBee123 children's book series — every story built to help a child see themselves as worthy, capable, and never alone in what they're feeling. Writing those books didn't just help the children who read them. It helped heal the child I used to be.

DropYourStory carries that same fire forward, for a different generation.

Black Gen Z is carrying its own weight — pressure, stigma, and a scarcity of spaces built specifically with them in mind, where they can be honest about what they're going through without having to perform strength they don't always feel. I built DropYourStory to be that space. Private. Judgment-free. A place where your story is safe the moment you drop it — because I know, better than most, what it means to finally have somewhere to put it down.

"Some of us carry things for years before we find the words. DropYourStory exists so this generation doesn't have to wait as long as I did."
